US Strikes Iran; Iran Targets US Base in Jordan

The United States launched large-scale airstrikes against Iranian military targets around the Strait of Hormuz. US officials said the operation was carried out in retaliation for Iran’s alleged attempt to lay naval mines in the strait.

In response, Iran announced that it had launched ballistic missiles at Camp Titin, a US Marine Corps base in Jordan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that the strike killed and wounded numerous US soldiers and destroyed helicopters stationed at the base. However, the United States has not confirmed those claims and said that most of the missiles were intercepted by air defense systems.

Iranian officials also said that a US airstrike in the city of Sirik, in Hormozgan Province, hit a house where a wedding ceremony was taking place. According to preliminary reports, four people were killed and more than 50 others were injured.
